Meaning of Population

Population is simply the count of the same kind of living things staying in one place at a time.

Population refers to the total number of organisms of the same species living together in a specific geographic area at a certain time.

It means counting all the goats in one village or all the maize plants on one farm right now.

These living things are able to mate and have babies with each other.

In one big area, different groups of animals and plants live together as a community.

How Population Grows

When the number of living things keeps doubling very fast, we call it exponential growth.

When a population doubles in size at regular intervals, it indicates exponential growth.

This is like how one bacteria becomes two, two becomes four, and it continues to grow very quickly.

Environment Limits

The land has a limit to the number of living things it can take care of without getting spoilt.

The carrying capacity of a biological species in an environment is the maximum population size that the environment can sustain indefinitely.

It is the highest number of animals that can stay in a place without running out of food or space.
