Population is just a word that means the total number of people living in a particular place at a certain time.

Population refers to the total number of people occupying a definite geographical territory during a period of time. It is the total number of people living within a geographical area or country at a particular time.

This means we are counting every single person, including children and adults, who stay in a town or a country right now.

Determinants of Population Size and Growth

These are the things that make the number of people in a country go up or go down.

The major factors that determine the size and growth of population are:

Birth rate: This is the number of babies born in a year; if many babies are born, the population will increase.

Death rate: This is the number of people who die; if many people die, the population will reduce.

Migration: This is when people move from one place to another to live there, like moving from a village to a city.

Region: This means the specific area where people stay, as some places naturally attract more people than others.

Modern medicine: This is the use of good hospitals and drugs to stop people from dying early, which makes the population grow.
