Hello my wonderful students! Welcome to our English lesson today.

Today, we are going to learn about Tenses. Tenses are super important because they tell us WHEN an action happened. Think of them as time-tellers for verbs.

We will focus on two common tenses: the Simple Present Tense and the Present Continuous Tense.

Let's start with the Simple Present Tense.

The Simple Present Tense is used for actions that happen regularly, general truths, facts, or habits. It describes things that are always true or that happen again and again.

How to form the Simple Present:

For 'I', 'You', 'We', 'They' (and plural nouns), we use the base form of the verb. Example: I eat, They go, We play.

For 'He', 'She', 'It' (and singular nouns), we add '-s' or '-es' to the verb. Example: He eats, She goes, It plays.

Look at these examples:

Chidi goes to school every morning.

Lagos is a very busy city.

I drink garri when I am hungry.

Now, let's talk about the Present Continuous Tense.

The Present Continuous Tense is used for actions happening right now, at the moment of speaking. It shows an action that is ongoing or in progress.

How to form the Present Continuous:

We use 'am', 'is', or 'are' (forms of 'to be') + the -ing form of the verb.

Example: I am eating, She is going, They are playing.

More examples:

Aisha is cooking jollof rice right now.

The children are playing outside.

Tunde is driving a danfo through the market.

We are learning about tenses today.

Remember, Simple Present for regular actions, Present Continuous for actions happening NOW. Keep practicing!
